Viviana Fernandez Represents uOttawa in Berlin

HRREC Assistant Director Viviana Fernandez attended the 2019 German Forum for Academic Freedom of the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany (Berlin, 18-19 March) representing the University of Ottawa and Scholars at Risk (SAR) Canada. The conference was followed by a meeting of the International Advisory Committee for SAR, where Viviana is a member (see picture).

The Forum was spearheaded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in partnership with the following German research funding and research performing organisations: the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR), the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF), the Leibniz Association (WGL), and the Max Planck Society (MPG). This event provides an opportunity for threatened researchers, host institutions, funding organisations, and partners in Germany and abroad to discuss current issues and strategies related to academic freedom.
