Three HRREC members receive prestigious scholarships

The HRREC is proud to announce that three of its members are the deserving recipients of prestigious scholarships: Benoit Frate has received the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships: Doctoral Scholarships Awarded for 2011-12, and Evelyne Jean-Bouchard and Laura Porras have received the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships for 2011. Congratulations! Benoît Frate, Ph.D. Candidate in Law at the University of Ottawa, is the recipient of a Doctoral Fellowship from the Joseph-Armand-Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) which will allow him to continue his research on the relationship between cities and international human rights law for the next three years.

Evelyne Jean-Bouchard, Ph.D. Candidate in Law at the University of Ottawa, is the recipient of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship which will allow her to continue her research on the protection of women’s rights in the context of failed states, particularly in the context of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Last but not least, Laura Porras, Ph.D. Candidate in Law at the University of Ottawa, is also the recipient of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship which will allow her to continue her research on social and transitional justice and to conduct a long term ethnographic observation to capture the construction of legality in areas where state authority exists but is often co-opted by one or more actors involved in on-going war.
