Sarah R. Olutola

The HRREC is pleased to welcome Sarah R. Olutola, our new Gordon F. Henderson Post-Doctoral Fellow 2018-2019!

Sarah R. Olutola, Ph.D., is a graduate of the department of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University. Her current research concerns representations of race in popular media culture, youth culture, African and African diasporic cultural studies, post-colonialism and global capitalism.

Her ongoing postdoctoral research project builds on her interest in African representations in fiction by considering African and African diasporic youth, not only in terms of youth-oriented contemporary literature, but also in terms of what such literature can tell us about affective belonging and youth political agency.

Sarah’s office is located at the Human Right Research and Education Centre (Fauteux Hall, 5th floor, FTX551). She can be reached by email at

We wish her a productive year at the Centre!
