Mr. Gopal Sharma, Deputy Representative UNICEF in Sierra Leone

Gopal has had a long and diverse career working in international development and humanitarian response with UNICEF. Currently, he is the Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Sierra Leone, where he is coordinating the UNICEF programme including the preparedness and response to emergencies such as the ongoing Ebola outbreak.  Prior to this assignment, Gopal served as Deputy Representative in UNICEF Afghanistan where he provided strategic leadership, guidance and oversight to the UNICEF programme for the child survival, development and the rights of children and women in the context of complex emergency situation in Afghanistan.

He has also served as Chief of Child Protection in UNICEF Burundi and Head of Social Policy, Advocacy and Communications in UNICEF Malawi.

Gopal has a Masters in Economic policy management from Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches sur le Développement International (CERDI) in France and a degree in Law. He brings a strong understanding of the rights of the children and women especially in emergency humanitarian context.
