Perspectives on the concepts of Social Security and Human Rights

Is social security just about providing a minimum level of protection for the most vulnerable, or is it about creating universal systems of quality services that can support society as a whole? This video features differing perspectives on the contested concepts of social security and human rights.

This video is based on footage from the joint UNRISD and FORUM-ASIA event, The Role of Social Security in Realizing Human Rights: Special Panel Discussion, held in Thailand, September 2012.

Featuring (in order of appearance): Ilcheong Yi (Research Coordinator, UNRISD), Santosh Mehrotra (Director-General, Institute of Applied Manpower Research, Planning Commission, Government of India), Rebecca Brown (Deputy Director, ESCR-Net), Armando De Negri Filho (World Social Forum for Health and Social Security Executive Committee) and Maina Kiai (UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association/ Executive Director, InformAction).
