The Human Rights Research and Education Centre, in association with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, is pleased to sponsor a panel during the 44th Canadian Council on International Law Annual Conference 2015:

Women, Refugees, Sexual Orientation and Violence in International Law:
Raising Voices and Expanding Protection


This panel is organized in memoriam of Professor Nicole Laviolette, who taught in the French Common Law section at the Faculty of Law (uOttawa) until her passing in May 2015. Her research, advocacy work and publications were mainly devoted to refugee law, international human rights, and family law. Throughout her prolific career, Professor Laviolette received numerous awards based on the excellence of her teaching, mentoring and research, as well as her public policy contributions.
